Generosity
Big Heart City operates on a Dāna (giving/generosity) system. The first perfection of the heart (pāramī), Dāna is foundational to Buddhist practice because it opens our hearts, builds connection, and teaches us to let go.
The Buddha considered the teachings to be priceless, and we continue this tradition of sharing the teachings for free. We are grateful for those who give more when they can afford more.
Your generosity is never expected, but it is always appreciated.
Directing of Donations
We have four funds that you may direct your donation towards, though most large donors choose to give wherever it is needed most. We deeply appreciate these donations, and our commitment is to using those donations to support Big Heart City in being a sustainable organization.
General Fund
Donations to the General Fund go wherever the organization currently needs the most support.
Community Fund
Covers shared needs of the sangha. When this fund is covered, we’re able to send all Friday night donations directly to the teacher. These donations go to rent for in-person gatherings, and equipment and tools for online sits.
Scholarship Fund
Makes it possible for folks to attend daylongs and retreats at reduced rates. You can donate directly to the Scholarship Fund or choose a higher-priced ticket for a retreat or daylong to sponsor someone else.
Teacher fund
The Teacher Fund ensures that every teacher receives a minimum amount, even if Friday night donations fall short.
GSD FUND
Our Get Sh*t Done Fund covers admin costs and all the behind-the-scenes stuff like tech platforms, website upkeep, bookkeeping, and card processing fees.
Planned Giving, Grants & donating stocks
Leaving a gift in your will or trust is a powerful way to keep this beautiful thing going — even after you're gone.
Big Heart City also accepts Stock donations and Grants from foundations or corporations.

Donations to Big Heart City will be directed as they were instructed by the donor, to the best of our ability.
Donations made to Big Heart City are anonymously forwarded to teachers. Your donation information will be kept private.
